  We had an email from a nice French lady.
  
  Pulling teeth is a suitable comparison.

    I promised to keep you updated as soon as I got any news:
    
    The nice French lady has sent us an offer on the Tertre Rouge campsite for 2008, the prices quoted are roughly 50% higher than last time.
    Obviously we will try and negotiate this down, but I am aware that other clubs are vying for 'our' spot.
    
    We had to pay for all 300 camping spots even though we only achieved 70% capacity last time, we anticipated this would happen and charged each of you proportionately for the camping.
    
    Next year we are teaming with TR-Register and therefor expect a 100% full campsite, this hopefully means that although the camping costs will inevitably rise, we won't have to 'load' the camping tickets so the increase shouldn't be too drastic.
    
    So we can confirm that the Tetre Rouge Campsite was not affected by the track changes and we have first dibs on it. The first beer's on Binman (don't drink his home distilled whisky)....

      Excellent news.
      Count 8 cars paid deposits to me already, just waiting for ferry date/time/cost to be issued by the ferry company.
      
      I'm sure we can stand a few more quid for what was one of the best events I've ever attended.

      It was a fantastic weekend last time, so take the offer on the Tertre Rouge camp site even if we have to pay a bit more.
      We will be there.

  South Yorkshire calling....... I have spoken to the ferry organiser , as we have 18 cars for the trip in 2008, and the Portsmouth/ Caen crossing looks as though it will also have increased in cost.
  No matter just have to look at ways of reducing costs in housekeeping
  Last year we crossed for &163;155.00 per car, they say 2008 could be between &194;&163;200.00 and &194;&163;255.00 but cannot confirm, as the final tariffs have not been officially released.
  This time though we will not be uplifting tents at 4am with torches (searching the camp floor for the ten pence piece Binman dropped the night before) but will be rising late and going to a hotel for a further couple of nights. You know , so we can sleep without ear plugs cos of camping between track and dual carriageway!

    With regard to ferries, the Transmanche Ferry company http://www.transmancheferries.com/ operates from Newhaven to both Dieppe and Le Havre, and from Portsmouth to Le Havre.
    
    They haven't got their July prices up yet but using August 2007 prices as a guide, they look competitive.
    
    Their website has timetables etc

    If you want to keep the ferry costs down try LD Lines. Cheap and cheerful but clean and does the job Portsmouth/Le Havre for about 1/2 the price Brittany Ferries charge for the Portsmouth/Caen crossing.
    
    I've used the LD crossing for the last 2 years and not had any issues - just eat before boarding as the food is sub-motorway service station level.
    
    Take the 11PM crossing and book a cabin - everyone (drivers included) can get a few beers down and then get their heads down and roll off in the morning for some French back road driving.

      Hi Guys,
      
      If your looking for a cheaper ferry crossing then check out www.speedferries.com if you don't mind a bit of a drive in France. They travel from Dover to Boulogne and their return price (even in peak times) is normally around &163;50 return. I have used them many times and I think they are brilliant - new high speed boats - and decent prices.
