Anything about Le Mans. If you're going to the 24 Heures du Mans in June 2006 or the Le Mans Classic in July 2006 - talk about it here.
The dates for the second Le Mans Classic have finally been agreed and published by the ACO and the race promoter.
The race weekend will begin on Friday 23rd July with the race starting on Saturday 24th and finishing on Sunday 25th July.
As per Le Mans tradition, the start will be on Saturday at 16:00 for a finish on Sunday at 16:00 and a false Le Mans-style start will precede the formation
lap.
The organisers have tweaked the format slightly so that there will be 6 grids which will race three times each (not 4 as in 2002). This means a total of 18
races throughout the day and night and each of these races will be also be longer than in 2002.
Teams will also be formed comprising a car from each grid.
The grids will be made up as follows:
366 competing cars (+ 72 reserve cars) - selected from 1923 to 1978, split according their period into 6 grids.
Grid 1, cars from 1923 to 1939
Grid 2, cars from 1949 to 1956
Grid 3, cars from 1957 to 1961
Grid 4, cars from 1962 to 1965
Grid 5, cars from 1966 to 1971
Grid 6, cars from 1972 to 1978
The improvements for 2004 include:
-A meeting spread along three days, or nearly with the track closing on Friday evening,
-A date in July offering longer days,
-Access and circulation significantly improved,
-The period of eligibility for the racing cars increased until 1978
-More cars on the track with a sixth grid
-The number of rounds reduced for all grids to 3 -for a track time slot slightly longer -allowing a change of driver
-The clubs have already announced a stronger participation (twice the number of cars)
-"Le Mans Classic 24 H Club" will host other original Le Mans race cars
