MOT / Tax...

Posted By : Neil Pannett, 15-May-2007, 02:14pm

Can anyone clarify the situation regarding taking a car for an MOT when not taxed / MOT'd currently?

My car has been off the road for a couple of years, and is currently SORN and not MOT'd. I understand that (providing the car is in a roadworthy condition) I am legally allowed to drive it to an MOT centre without a valid MOT so long as I can prove where I am going - and I assume that the same applies with the tax / SORN (given that you can't tax a car without an MOT this would be logical)... but what I'm not sure about is the situation if the car fails the MOT - am I then allowed to drive it home (if it fails on a minor point that I can repair at home and that doesn't make the car unsafe to drive (such as the windscreen wipers on a dry day)?

Any advice gratefully received.
