Completely true!!! Ive always thought this! where I live, whenever it gets moderately cold or rains for a while the traffic lights on a busy crossroads
all fail...then the traffic moves blissfully freely! No horns are used as no one considers that they have right of way, so courtesy comes into it,
rather than a pre programmed set up which allows big clumps of cars to come through, making all others wait long periods and encouraging red light
jumping for those with no patience. With no signals, no one lane has right of way and one or two cars from each road cross the junction at a time.
However, the most pointless juntction I can think of at the moment which is really quite similar to cross roads is the dreaded mini roundabout - they
just dont work if you can see all the exits and traffic is heavy, as you all give way to the road on you're left!
I reckon what our conjested roads need is this dutch bloke!

Awww......and there's me expecting this to be a thread advocating the purchase and daily use of 948 and early 1200 Heralds!

Well I would like to Agree with you Ben. But just yesterday the traffic lights across from me failed and they had to get a policeman out to work the traffic for most of the night because there were 4 accidents in 50 minutes. But I do agree with the Dutch guy you have to make things seem a bit more dangerous and complicated so folk will slow down and take their time.
As for those cars that pull out onto the main road just because they see a Triumph herald and they think it can't be going that fast. I have had to thank the first owner a few times for having the foresight to spend &163;2 in 1962 to put on optional disc brakes to my Herald.-

Eeeek, they must be speed demons in your neck of the woods then! No accidents here, though it is in a 30 limit. Too true about the pulling out in front of heralds though, people just asume they will take most of the day to accelerate to 30...not the 3 secs it usually takes
