Jonathan,
There is no import duty to pay on imports from other EU countries.
VAT might be payable in the originating country - if 2nd hand parts are normally VAT'd in the originating country.
If they are VAT exempt in the originating country, or the seller is not VAT registered then there is none to pay.
If the parts dealer is very large, and exceeds a certain threshold of sales into other EU countries, then if VAT is chargeable then it is charged at
your home country rate (i.e. UK), and paid to your home country Government (i.e. UK). For small dealers, or dealers who do very little "foreign"
business, then if VAT is charged, it is charged at the dealers home country rate and paid to the dealers home country Government.
If the sale of a VAT chargeable item is between two VAT registered businesses in different EU countries, the there is no VAT payable on the transaction
- but the receiving company will have to charge VAT on the item when sold to the Customer, and pay the VAT to his home country Government (except as
above)
I hope this isn't too confusing - if it is, ask for clarification and I'll try and explain in simple words, but it's a very complex subject.
