Here's an odd position, hoping that someone might have a vague inkling of where I'd stand on it:
I've just bought a car, when I first looked at it it had failed the MOT on some minor points (horn not working, passenger door not opening properly from
outside, indicators faulty, windscreen washers not working), these were then "fixed" and the car put in for a second MOT which it passed. As far as I'm
concerned however these haven't actually been fully fixed as I'm having to sort some bits relating to them out now (the passenger door in particular), I
was just wondering where I'd stand if I were to report the MOT station for issuing an MOT certificate for a car that shouldn't have passed it's MOT, would
this invalidate the MOT?
Just a bit confused at how a test station could have known about some failings on the car that were brought up in the test fail, yet have still passed it
with one or two of them still there. Seems like it'd be remiss of me to not point this out to whoever regulates MOTs, yet I'd rather not have to put my car
through another MOT. From memory I think I can report a station up to 6 weeks after the test for general failings, and 3 months for structural failings if
I think that they have neglected to check something.
Has anyone ever reported an MOT test station thats issued you a pass?

Never had the bottle - I assume the procedure is your car gets thoroughly checked over by a couple of ministry bods who then tear up your ticket on the
spot! Unless there's some way of repoting these things anonymously but I don't see how that could work in reality, people would be moaning about every
garage they ever had bad service from (lots of mileage in that one), every garage in town would be trying to stir up trouble for the competition etc
etc. Probably best to forget all about it!
Of course things like horns and washers are always prone to niggling, intermittent faults anyway. It could have failed, someone had a play which started
things working so it passed but then they stopped working again...

Ben,
If I were you I would stop worrying about insignificant things like this & concentrate on getting out in this sunshine in your lovely old car!

Not really related but my father in law was a stubborn bloke and back in the 60's his Morris Oxford failed its MOT because it needed some welding
underneath, that's all just a bit of welding. The tester was a young man and my FIL said he didn't know his stuff and appealed...appeal dismissed.
Well, FIL felt that they didn't know what they were doing either so in a fit of pique he burried the Oxford in his back garden...can you believe
that??? Only needed a bit of welding, soppy old sod!
At 2 High Grove, Plumstead...you have a car buried in the back garden!
I've been wanting to tell that story for decades.

Aye, my thoughts exactly, it just came up in my overly pedantic mind when I was reading through all the documentation - its a pretty ridiculous
system though whereby in the interests of reporting a shoddy MOT station (for something serious say), you have to take the penalty of
money/time/hassle to actually sort out the car all over again.

put it this way they could have given you a ticket without doing a thorough test and missed some dangerous defect like a cracked chassis rail
or similar causing an accident when driving your car.i know which situation i would rather have.of couse you would still have all the legal
implications of the tester saying it was ok when tested but a lot more hassle.

This morning I took the old man's Acclaim to our friendly, local MOT station, and although it walked the test I noticed they were being far
more thorough than usual - I think they must have had an inspector round! Don't get me wrong, they wouldn't pass anything really dodgy, and
it was always a "fair" test, but often they didn't worry too much about testing niggly things like washers and horns.

Just be thankful you have a 'Pass' Fix the door asap yourself. It is a failure cos if there is a fire, the door need to open .Next time
you take it in the same Mot place if you are brave enough... they will check every loose nut and bolt if they were to be
reported>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>aahhhhhhhhhhhhh lol

If you really want to report the MOT station, you need to contact the Vehicle Operator Services Agency in Bristol. The conduct of
the MOT test is undertaken by approved MOT garages, and VOSA administer the test, ensuring all test stations operate fairly and
consitently. They also deal with complaints about MOT stations, which this would fall under.
