MOT bay - how far?

Hello all,

I wondered if anyone knew if there are any limits on the distance you can drive for a booked MOT, without actually having a current one?

Wondering because my car is shortly to be welded, about 35 miles from home. By the time it's complete, the MOT will have expired by about 2-4weeks, though the car will of course have plenty of tax and insurance. Rather than trailing it home, was thinking about booking an mot in a garage near to home to cover myself on the drive back. Then I can get it home, cancle the mot, and have the time to check it properly at my leisure before booking an MOT proper.

Maybe it a bit naughty, but is it legal?

Also, I heard some where there's a period of about 2 weeks grace on expiray of an MOT - is that true?

Chris
