Been hit up the back!

Posted By : Van Hamlin, 19-Apr-2007, 11:43am

After over 14 years of ownership, and less than 4 weeks before I start a new job 130 miles away my GT6 has been hit up the back (rear valance, upper rear panel, rear inner outer and upper rear wings, bumper, lights etc all damaged).

The other guy's insurers rang me before I got to speak to FJ and admitted liability and offered to sort it out themselves, but I would have to get quotes for repair. I suspect they don't know the extent of the damage.

I said I'd wait till I spoke to FJ and when I did, FJ said I could go through the other insurer if I wanted to. I said I'd rather go with FJ. They send an assessor round and I think there would be less hassle with them if the car is written off, which I suspect it will be. Agreed value is &163;3900.

Given that responsibility seems fairly clear cut and I'm very tight for time I'm interested to hear from anyone with regard to:
how long it might be until a write-off or not decision is made?
what sort of figure to buy it back?
other than making it road legal what am I likely to have to do to be allowed to drive it again? A big hammer, a new wing, number plate, bumper, light lenses and a bit of welding will get it road legal but it won't be painted and the back will be dented. Does it need to be MoTd, inspected etc?

Particularly interested in hearing from Nigel because of his similar experience.

Cheers
Van
