Crikey expensive!

Blimey - just got quoted by Footman James on the club policy - &163;1300 for my Spitfire and a >Honda< Acclaim (runaround whilst my Spit is being fixed)

Last year I paid &163;600 - the year before that it was much the same.

I'm 23 now - what on earth is going on

Anyone any suggestions!?

  Probably something to do with the fact you've made a couple of claims. You may not have been at fault but that doesn't seem to matter.

    Time for the standard discussion with them.
    
    Get a few other quotes and haggle.
    
    This is my only complaint about FJ, the incessant haggling.

            I've had 3 claims this year - only one of them being my fault...
            
            4 claims in total over my entire driving career (first one was my 1500 being written off)
            
            The Acclaim plan has gone out the window now - so will have to see if I can beat them down on just my Spitfire. Had a quote of around 700 from Lancaster...

              You put the word "only" in the wrong place. To have more impact, the sentence should have read "I've ONLY had 3 claims this year - one of them being my fault..."
              
              Now being serious, do you actually need insurance on the Spit at the moment, as it is off the road. Can you not find a "laid up" policy that is somewhat cheaper. Or is its return to the road imminant ?
              
              Or how about insurance for a 948 or 1200 Herald, or is that a bit slow for you ?
              
              Good luck finding cheaper insurance - try working a bit harder on FJ. They originally quoted me &163;850 for my daily driver, but that came down to &163;251 after a bit of discussion via the Club, and the cover is better than would have been provided by Tesco's. My renewal with Tesco's would have been &163;410.

                It'll be back on the road in the next couple of months.
                
                I will phone up FJ tomorrow and ask about a laid up policy - but it needs to be easily turned in to a driving policy.
                
                I think I need to have another go at FJ - last year they quoted me &163;800, but after a few phone calls it went down to &163;500.

            I'll have nothing said about James' driving ability...OK so what if he completely ignored my constant reminders about our newly discovered half flat front tyre, and wet leaves on really poor roads while not racing on last weekend's Dutch Night Rally.

                Hehe... maybe James ought to get himself to the circuit then... I remember that was the plan a few years ago - don't need insurance for that
                Heck... for the quote he just ... erm ... quoted ... he could build himself a race car in three years!!

                  Don - I never managed to get the car off road though did I? Unlike someone... of course it was your own car so I guess you're allowed...
                  
                  Craig - lucky I tested them when I did really - it was only then that we realised how thin the pads were - just imagine if it had happened on a more dangerous section... the Stelvio for instance...
                  
                  Nigel - one day - I'd like one working car first though... and a road car is useful...

                  As my chemistry teacher always used to say "you've got more chance of dying when alive than dead - so the probability is always against you"... or something like that...
