Hi
10.30am yesterday I was doing 70mph in the outside lane of the M25, just past J18 and then suddenly 'BANG' my back wheel came off! The car twisted round
causing the front drivers side to smash into the central reservation and then spun across three lanes and onto the hard shoulder.
It was a miracle I was totally untouched and despite the traffic being very heavy at the time all the other cars kept out my way and no one else was
involved. I feel very lucky. The garage haven't given it the full autopsy yet but it looks as if the stub axle fractured.
Please can I have any advice on what I can expect to happen regarding an insurance claim. I am getting married on 05th August (2 weeks today!) and our GT6
was/is going to be the wedding car!!! A local garage have the car now and have estimated about £1800 to repair. I have the car insured with
Jootman James valued at £3500 with a valid valuation date. The garage think the car is going to be written off! If I go ahead with instructing
the garage to repair the car in time for the wedding (hopefully!!) is there a risk the insurance won't pay anything?
Thanks
Mark

Sorry to hear about you accident. Glad it is only the car that was hurt. Talk to Footman James. I suggest that you give serious consideration to
getting a Triumph specialist to do the work.

Speak to FJ.
An engineer bloke will need to go look at the car to evaluate it in its current state before you do anything.
They may write it off - if it costs more than something like 75% of the cars value. So you may be ok.

Talk to your Insurance company BEFORE you make the official claim, and see what they recommend. They should be happy to discuss options. Don't go
for the short term solution, it may be difficult with the wedding plans but look for long-term repair or replacement depending on your cover. Get a
professional restoration company to do the work too and make sure the insurance company understands this, don't go to a local garage who don't know
Triumphs.
You have my commiserations - hope it all works out! At least there's still enough of you in one piece to walk down the aisle...

Hi Mark,
So sorry to hear of your accident.
I think your only consolation (apart from the fact that you are ok) is that you are insured (on agreed valuation) with FJ.
I had an accident just over a year ago that was a write off with FJ. It took about 6 weeks in all to be paid. It would have been slightly
quicker if I had made my mind up quicker about wether I wanted to keep the salvage though. I did keep the salvage and they only took a tiny
percentage off for it.
They were extremely fair and very proffessional.
I don't think it will all be sorted in time for you wedding. Even if FJ pay within the next few days, by the time your garage order and fit new
parts etc, then it will need repainting, I think 2 weeks would be pushing it for it to be done propely.
I agree with the last message that you should use a specialist Triumph Garage.
Are you freindly with local members??? Perhaps they would be willing to supply you with wedding cars.
You could try posting another message to see if anyone can help you out with this.
Good luck with your insurance and with you wedding, and all the best for your married life.
Julie

Thank you for all your help and advice. An engineer saw the car this morning and will be issuing a report later this week I spoke to him on the phone
and he was very unwilling to comit to any decision at this stage? Whatever happens I have conceded that the car will not be ready for the wedding which
is a real shame. Can anyone recommend any Triumph specialists in the Berkshire area? I think the nearets to me would be JY Classics in Aylebury?

I'm hearing good things about Moonface Classics near Hook where Hants & Berks Area meet, I don't know of anyone who's had major work there but
a few people have had odd jobs done and have been complementary, worth a look - www.moonfacerestorations.co.uk
I've never been there personally so I'm only passing on what I've heard.
