Third party, fully comp or agreed value - talk about it here

Rather than send off all the paperwork and photos,would it not be possible to do the clubs agreed value online,via this website maybe.

My insurance with Footman ,cheapest by far incidentally,is due at the end of this month,they have requested a new valuation certificate,I was not aware that they only last two years,there are no periods of grace,maybe i'm going on holiday and could not provide these in time?

Online would be so much quicker and easier.Is it possible Craig?

I have a bit of a beef with the valuation at the moment.

Mine expired a few days ago - so I need to take out a new one.

Alright so far - but in the coming month my car is getting a respray, a modified engine and expensive induction bits and bobs. If I convert the rear end to rotoflex like I intend to later in the year - that's yet more value that will need to be added. That's a hefty bill of parts - but I am going to have to pay the &163;16 twice (or more) rather than just inform them of the expense with receipts etc That's how Lancaster and a few other places do it - you pay your &163;15 and then advise them on any increase or change in value.

So &163;32 it will have to be... I guess a small(ish) price to pay.

Can anyone justify why it costs &163;16 for the club valuation?

Yes i agree if the main purpose of the club is to promote and keep triumphs on the road and not just a way of fleecing members of &163;16..00 then it needs to seriously look at the way it charges its members.
i feel that if you join the TSSC a valuation evey two years should be included in the membership cost. if they realy want to promote and keep triumphs on the road and not force members into MX-5 or MR2. the price the club charges it's members for parts is normally over and above the charge CANLY CLASSICS charge so i think the club needs to have a generally overview of its charges.

I think we all miss the point. It used to be a Club, now its a business and has gone down the pan as a result. Same old re-printed articles, a lack of detail, relying completely on the free efforts of various writers etc. New headquarters, highly expensive shop full of stuff you can buy from anywhere else at 30% less praying on the innocent, no access for non members to message baords to save a couple of quid a year in bandwidth at the expense of new business.

I haven't spent more than 1minute reading the courier for years, it bores me to tears, I know 6 other members who say the same, I only know 6 others!...its about time someone shock the boat, you see the club so badly needs new people all the time, as once you have been a member for more than 2 years you notice the pattern, same old stuff, same old stories etc, I haven't read anything I didnt already know, have done or will be doing for a longtime. If i wasnt for the efforts of those who right technical articles for free the magazine may as well start reprinting the same magazines from 3years on cycle.

I wont be re-newing my membership again the only reason to bother is to get insurance at the discounted price of a years membership.

Oh and not to forget, the cheap hosting on this website, so you have to waste hours waiting for the damn thing to load!! Sort it out!!

To reply to Joe - the problem with writing about our cars is that there are only so many things you can write about and if you go back over old issues of The Courier you'll be amazed at how many times the dynamo to alternator conversion or the drum to disc brake upgrade has appeared. If I wanted to take the easy option I could feature members cars every issue for the next four years, I have so many submitted photos, but I know that members need more than that and so every month the various contributors rack their brains and try to be different and entertaining, and strike a balance between technical stuff for the mechanics and fun stuff for the drivers. To be honest I stopped subscribing to Triumph World as I could read an issue in five minutes flat, and every month it was the same boring crap about how somebody was made redundant so he sat in his garage and polished his car every night for four years and subsequently won concours. The reason I've lasted with the TSSC is that there's always someone prepared to make the effort and go that little bit farther - be it the messageboard, or the magazine articles, or Stafford - to keep me interested.
As to making the messageboard free to everyone - I've been to various Triumph Club websites, Yahoo groups and enthusiasts websites, and I eventually leave most of them again, sick of discussions so in-depth they make even football seem exciting.. "If I polish my wheels with Autosol instead of Brasso I can reduce the drag by 0.000000001......" "Outsiders" like myself are either put-down by the "experts" or just ignored. Do you really want some on-line smartass, a legend in his own lunchbox, logging on to disrupt the club messageboard only to disappear again just as quickly, or reappear under a multitude of different user names with a torrrent of abuse or links to malicious software? There is some peace of mind to knowing the messageboard is regulated and restricted, you know.
It all boils down to what you really want from your annual subscription and if you feel you're not getting value, then you are free to leave. As with any society, if we're all takers things will break down fairly quickly; there have to be givers and some of us do enjoy making the effort. To put things in perspective, I put the equivalent of my yearly subscription into my cars petrol tank every fortnight. I'm happy to be a member and a contributor, but I'm damned if I'll subsidise other people who don't want to either contribute or pay. I do it in the hope that whenever I need help or advice - which is often enough - there'll be someone willing to give their time and effort for a fellow Club member to keep my cars on the road - which is the reason for all this in the first place.

Oh yes, and it did used to be a Club. The woeful quality of the early Couriers show just how far it has come..... not to mention the tiny adverts for certain small businesses which are now somewhat larger, and still can't get parts to me in under six weeks...

Sure I agree I have couriers from 1980 or so, bar the addition of colour nothing has changed really, they used to just as thick and more technical? It just appears that during the last 6years or so the mag has gone down the pan in my opinion.

I should have said I just mean its good to let visitors read the forum, but not to post on it, you see when guys have problems they troll the net for answers, they could come here read about the cars and get a feel before they join, thinking what a nice club etc, at the moment you cannot access a thing as a guest, this is down purely and simply to penny pinching.

But I guess nothing will change the fact it has to be the most boring magazine know to man for me!

I think you'll be surprised at the figures involved in setting up a website with enough bandwidth to allow anyone and everyone access to everything. This would prpbably need a dedicated server and that could cost as much as &163;20,000 to set up (inlcuding licenses etc), maintenance fees which usually comes into the region of &163;1,500 per month... then there's page adminstration - eg. good ol' Craig

It's an expensive business out there you know.

Also, if you're opinion of the magazine is that it's boring, then I'm guessing you know more about the subject than the current contributors. So why don't you start writing some *interesting* articles for it... after all it is your magazine, contributed to by club members and currently you are a member.

I know you have some interesting ideas (and cars) because we have talked about them so why not let everyone know?

I also just logged out of the site and visited it as a Guest and am surprised to find that I could access all the usual sections of the site! Including the messageboard, buyers guides, car description, member profiles (but not contact details), shop, events calender, motorsport news, book shop... even the classifieds... so I don't see where or why your think this site is unaccessible to guests?... currently I can see we have 51 of them (<--- on left), plus six members

Must be a very recent change, as I had to register to gain access to this board, this months classified etc, only a few months ago. You could see the topics, but not read the messages etc. This has been mentioned by several people. Maybe they listened before and opened it up again.

All businesses are expensive in regards of overheads I run one, thats a business, not a club though.

Yes the mag is boring for me as its the same old and never much new, good job Tony has started writing something. I could write a zillion articles on modification, tuning, bodywork, suspension design, racing, trackdays etc but to be honest I'd rather not, as my time is better spent working. Maybe if they gave me a room in the nice new headquarters, a PC, leather chair and a wage I maybe tempted. In the past I would have done so for free, but not now, as the club has changed alot in recent years since the business side became more important than the "club".

Its most probably the business side of the club that keeps every thing afloat
every thing in life today aint cheap. As nearly all of us dont really no what goes on behind the scenes of this club providing they dont double in price membership im sure most are happy with what we get out of it for the price we pay.
