i have for a little while had a dream of building my own creation using our beloved "herald" chassis and runing gear, now obviously with these i want
projects there is variation, on the theme depending upon when i am asked, but at the moment the parts list would include:
herald 13/60 chassis
2 seater body based on a design such as the mg tf (with running boards)
spit mk3 engine and o/d gearbox
herald steering rack
moto lita wood rim steering wheel
twin su's
lightened flywheel
drilled grooved and vented front discs 13/60
chrome wire wheels
10" chrome headlamps
spit mk1-3 rear light clusters
1200 style dash
rectangle windscreen with chrome pillars
twin exiting exhaust (one each side at the rear)

some people will dissagree with me on that one, but my reasoning with that is as follows:
i live on the edge of dartmoor and on both my spitfire mk4 and my herald driving up and down all these steeeep hills with nasty bendy bits really
does give the brakes a pounding,
and have experienced brake fade of epic proportions in both too many times this is obviously caused by them overheating,
so thinking logically either ive got to put alot of louvres in the bonnet to create more air flow, or re direct some air from the grill to the
discs (both will only cool the discs above a certain speed) or i can get posh discs and pads.
but if anyone knows different i would certainly like to hear the different opinions and options on this matter.
cheers

A number of years ago I had the same problem with by Herald Estate, lots of weight, on hills that were both prolonged and very steep. So I
fitted the 2 Litre Vitesse brakes front and rear. This does also involve fitting Vitesse front uprights, larger front wheel bearings and
Vitesse rear back-plates.
It has solved the problem, but the work may be more involved than you wish.
