Herald launch

Hello everybody

I am a new member (joined at the NEC) I have been given a single 7" cardboard record which was issued at the launch of the Herald in 1959. Does anyone have any ideas about how to listen to it without damaging it, and maybe it's value.

Assuming it's the same item then it's pretty rare and valuable. This was (I think) a recording of the press launch of the car at the Albert Hall in 1959. I bid on one in an ebay auction but it went beyond what I was willing to pay - final price was somewhere over &163;50 from memory. Sorry I can't suggest any way of playing it without damaging it - I suppose a starting point would have to be a good quality record deck,

  Before you try and play it I would suggest you contact the British Museum or even perhaps Pathe News - these old records weren't designed with modern equipment in mind and vica versa! You could easily destroy it.
  I would think these things are pretty rare - cardboard not being the most durable material ever made! Treat it carefully and if you do play it, make a recording on modern media - CD would be good
  I would think maybe even the British Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon could help too.

  I thought you may be interested. I have contacted the motor museum at gaydon, and Richard in the archive thinks that the record that I have of the Herald launch may be unique. There may be some collectors who are interested. Apparently it say on the back of the cardboard record that there was special music composed for the launch.! ! interesting isn't it.
