Not being overly technical when it comes to the engine....I have a 13/60 and ocassionally when trying to start it I get a clicking noise. I have a feeling
this is something stuck in the starter motor. Can someone advise if A) I am right b) I need a new starter motor or C) some other useful tip for a hopeless
mechanic ! Thanks. The clicking is becoming more frequent.

Jason
The likely cause of the clicking is the Starter Solonied rather than the Starter motor
The solonied is located on the bulkhead and is an easier and cheaper part to replace.

I agree this is common of a solenoid problem.
Simple to diagnose, start car with the bonnet open and put your finger on top of the Black plastic part of the solenoid, (Don't touch the
terminals, it will make your hair stand on end) you should feel it clicking.
Finally if you give it a sharp tap with a screw driver handle it should stop clicking.
Hope that helps

Check the battery terminals are good and tight - can make the clicking sound you describe.
Get someone to look under the engine bay in the dark while you turn the key. They will see if anything is arcing.

Worth making sure all the connections to the battery, solenoid, starter motor and engine earth strap are all in good nick and clean and
tight.
A dying battery will also give this problem, when it will activate the solenoid but not have enough juice to actually turn the engine over.
However you would probably recognise that problem as having to recharge the battery or bump-start the car!
