Clutch Master Cylinder Seals

Posted By : Michael Sutton, 18-Oct-2005, 08:46pm

I recently had the dreaded loss of hydraulic fluid from the master cylinder. So I ordered new seal kits for both master and slave cylinders and got stuck into the job. All relatively straightforward so far, then. whilst repairing the master cylinder, I noticed that there was a spare seal in the kit! I checked the Workshop Manual and Spares List and, sure enough they both show a secondary seal in a groove near the outer end of the piston. The problem is ........my piston does not have a groove! On further checking I note that the similar piston in the brake master cylinder does not have a seal in this position. So, what's going on here? Is tne manual wrong or perhaps I have a brake cylinder piston fitted into a clutch cylinder! Any ideas?
