Can anyone help? I need to get my hands on a bolt for the hood frame of my Herald - it snapped in two recently. I rang Fitchets (as suggested in a similar
posting on here last year) but they said they didnt have any and the part was no longer made. They also said that Rimmers, Canley Classics etc would not
have one. Can anyone point me in the direction of somewhere that can either repair the hood frame or supply the bolt I need? Or does anyone have one they
don't need?
The bolt in question is, I am informed by Fitchets, part no. 609244 - described by the guy on the end of the phone as "Hinge Link to Pivot Mounting". There
is a kind of banana shaped bracket, the top end of which fixes to a hinge at the back of the window frame, and the bottom is bolted (or should be, as this
is the bolt that has snapped!) onto another bracket that is fixed to the body of the car.
Well, that description confused the hell out of me and I wrote it(!), but if anyone knows the bit I mean, and can help in any way, drop me a line. I really
dont fancy having to lay out for a whole new hood frame for the sake of one bolt!

Have you tried Chic Doig ? 01592 722999
I've usually found that they have S/H parts on the shelf that nobody else has had in stock for years.
Good luck.

Have to say I haven't tried them, so I'll give it a go. Cheers.

If all else fails, you'll have to get an engineering firm to produce a special bolt for you. Any firm with a lathe should be able to make one
given the original to work from.

Thanks - am hoping it won't come to that as I fear that might work out rather expensive! I've just run Chic Doig - very helpful - and the
guy I spoke to said he would have a check for me tonight on some hood frames he has at home, so with fingers and everything else crossed -
here's hoping!!

Have you actually asked Canley Classics or Rimmers. I was visiting Canleys recently looking to sort out a dipping rear mirror and got
to see the massive stock of bits they have from dismantled cars. Give them a call before going to the expense of getting something made
up!

No, I haven't asked them as yet - I'm hoping the guy from Chic Doig will come up trumps tonight and find one at home. He said he has a
fair few bits from some imported Californian cars, so it looks fairly promising. If that turns out to be a dead end I will then contact
the likes of Canley, Rimmer Bros etc, but Mr Chic Doig said he knew for definite that they (Canleys and Rimmer) didn't have any, as he
checked whilst I was on the phone to him. If need be, it's still worth a shot though!

Quiller and Spitfire Graveyard are usually good sources for used bits. May want to sell you a complete frame though

Thanks Ian - I will add them to my list of possibles if the Chic Doig thing doesn't work out.

Has there been any progress on this as I am now in the same position, I will check all the Stag ones when i het to work
tomorrow but i am sure they will all be just slightly different!! is it worth getting together and getting a complete
batch made so people can refurbish their hood frames?
Let me know if interested?
Garth

Hi
Sure its 609244?
The book says 609241 is 5/16" bhind window frame and 609243 1/4" attaching to b post ?
Both shoulder bolts. The answer being use a standard bolt and use a tube/sleeve to create the 'shoulder'
Any good?
