Having had great success with you clever and helpful guys out there regarding my "Clouds of white smoke/steam" problem, I thought I would pick your brains
again regarding the "L" shaped cuts which have appeared in my Herald's hood. These are caused by the scissor-like action of the hood frame when the hood is
being folded but as you can't see into the hood well while the hood is being pushed down, you can't see how the hood material gets into the mechanism. or
how it could be prevented. As I am about to fit a new hood I would be very grateful for any advice from anyone who has experienced this problem.
Incidentally, this also happened on my Stag's 300 quid mohair hood! Was I gutted or what!!??

I believe this is quite a common problem on the Herald Vitesse range and on my Car I found it was caused by the Self tapping screw which hold the
Strainless steel finisher at each end, which is fitted above the rear window, The screw is supposed to be a recessed type self tapper with a slightly
rounded head, which is a nice smooth fit in the recessed hole of the finisher.
You also have make sure you fold the Hood as per the Owners Manual and not force the frame in any way, I have seen some of the Concourse Car Owners
using Towels or similar to protect the Windows, when folded away.

Hi Gary,
Many thanks for your comments re tears in Herald hoods. You are correct - the self-tappers on my hood rear trim are countersunk screws which are
not countersunk into the trim! Therefore a large sharp head sticks out each side! However they do seem a long way from the actual tears which are
about 2" from the rear edge of the side windows. I will have the hood down at the week-end to see if the screw heads get anywhere near the tears.
Will get the correct screws anyway.
Also, thanks for your advice re correct stowage methods. I have to admit to just shoving the hood down pretty far so that I can get the hood bag
on. Must find the correct method!
Thanks again for your advice!
