  Hi Paul,
  Refitting secondhand bumpers isn't easy. The bumpers need to be warm for mximum flexibility, and keeping the retaining strip warm will also help. A deecnt garge and a hot air hearter will be minimum requirements at this time of year. Soapy water will help lubricate, though many will advocate silicone spray - I always prefer to avoid silicone products in case of future repainting, but that's a personal thing.
  Good luck, but I suspect thatn new bumpers won't seem quite so expensive once you've struggled with secondhand ones...

        I have to admit that up until this point I've always bought my service bits locally as I have a Triumph supplier within 5 minutes drive of home but next time I need something out of the ordinary I'll be giving Bill a call.

            This is a subject dear to my heart at the moment with three on-going restorations; the problem with suppliers is that I tend to use the ones whose products I can see and decide if thats exactly what I need so a good illustrated catalogue comes first every time. Canley are good - up to a point - but their last price guide stipulating that you should already own a parts manual leaves me a bit in the cold - if you saw the photo of Dave in Practical Classics he's carrying a Herald floor section which I had thought was long unobtainable. Due to geography some of us can't drop round to discuss the availability of items and working hours mean I can't always phone; besides by the time I've asked for a part I always feel embarrassed about refusing it if I think the price is too high... so an illustrated catalogue is a must and for this reason Rimmers will always score highly with me. I've been selling a lot of parts on eBay recently which I bought by description only to find they weren't what I wanted at all, but the vendor had no photos in his catalogue...

              Hi All: Since I am restoring a 1200 and I bought a set of new rubber bumpers was glad to see this. As for suppliers, here in the US there are only a few for Heralds, and they don't have much. I found Bill Davies through EBay and I give him a top vote. I have been to some of the web sites and I too do not like to look at only part numbers. I need pictures. Yes I have the manuals with numbers. Like american cars numbers don't always match what you need or think you need. When I stoped at Canley's site it said to use Moss numbers. Maby they are the same but here Moss does not carry Herald parts nor will they talk Herald. Are Moss and manual numbers the same? For my american classics I have one main supplier but always check around for who has what and at what price. The more suppliers there are the more we all benifit.

        I only mentioned Rimmers as I have used them but only because I'm new to the Triumph scene (well new in terms of owining them as classics!), and have not sorted out the best places to buy parts.

          Is a bumber a sort of bumper which hits you in the backside? Only kidding.
          I've left my rebuilt 13/60 without the rubbers or locating channels for now, and it all looks fairly modern. I believe this is fairly common and probably upsets the purists, but I've spent the money elsewhere and need to replenish the piggy bank before doing what's right. Fitting Vitesse aluminum bumpers to Heralds is a common modification, and I must study one closely next time I see such a vehicle. All a matter of taste I suppose.

      You are guaranteed to find them cheaper than Rimmers - Canley's sell them as a set, I'm not sure if you can buy fronts and rears separately http://www.canleyclassics.com/partfinder.asp?partn...

          Very true, there are loads of other traders it's just that when asked for an opinion I usually give mine which is, in order of preference - Canley Classics as my first call, Moss and Rimmers as my last call (in fact I have yet to find anything I want to buy from either of them) Then everyone else somewhere in between with Rarebits at the top - I think Bill's attempts to be omnipresent at shows, newsgroups and message boards deserves our support!
          The thing about traders is that when I find one I get on with, trust and who provides good service I tend to stick with them. When I get ripped off or supplied with crap I hold a grudge and stay away.
          Back to the subject, if Bill will split a set of bumpers then that's a less painful way of acquiring them - don't be temped by "good second hand" unless you are prepared to spend much time and frustration attempting to fit them, no matter how cheap they are!

        Most suppliers sell them as full sets, because that is how we all have to buy them from the manufacturers.
        I split them into front and rear sets and generally both ends sell equally well so it's not a problem.
