Hi,
Mine had a similar problem when on the standard single stromberg set-up. I think it will be to do with fuel, as the first problem that I identified
was a thouroghly gummed up petrol pump caused by a rusty petrol tank. Flushing the tank, float chamber, fitting a new pump and adding a sedimnet
bowl cured this: total cost about £30. The engine never idled properly however because the carb was worn, being the original fitted to
a 90,000 mile engine. Only on 1 or 2 occasions under hard work did the engine misfire again. Now it is fitted with twin 1.5"su's, which brings its
own set of complications, but since fitting them it has never had the problem you are describing, which was apparant before.
As for ignition, Ive just replaced the plugs, condensor and points and I'm still getting a fairly weak spark, which cant help matters on the
misfiring front, so I'm thinking its maybe the coil at fault. Have you changed yours?

Ben
I've never had a failed coil so I can't offer much advise other than it has to be a possibilty. Worth checking the coil is earthed properly
though, this is usually just done by screwing the coil bracket to the body but if the bulkhead is rusty etc it would pay to try fitting a wire
to a clean earthing point. It's a bit of a long shot but worth a try.
