Hi all,
I have just built up a new engine for my 13/60. I have fitted an unleaded cylinder head. can anybody suggest the best ignition timing setting as I believe
it should be different from the standard setting.
Cheers
John.

Start at about 10 degrees BTDC and advance progressively by increments of a couple of clicks of the vernier until it pinks slightly under load, then
retard to the last position before pinking. Obviously if it pinks at 10 BTDC then you need to retard. I've found there's little point being scientific
about the process as fuels have changed so drastically since the original specs were written.
Shell Optimax will give you the smoothest running and (apparently) better economy. It also pinks less at higher ignition advances,

Thanks very much for the info, I will try that. Interesting to hear Shell gives smoothest running.
