Supposed window wiper

Hi All,
Just bought my (oops, our) first Herald - 13/60 convertible. Drove her home 420 miles from Gatwick in 9 hours non-stop (and without indicators!). Could not wipe the smile off my face - had joined a breakdown recovery thing the day before as i really did not expect a wee Herald (that only had the once - over from me) to travel all that way without a breakdown.

Now the fun starts by trying to sort (restore if I'm disillusioning myself) the little niggles. First off the drivers door was sticking when trying to open from the inside, worked perfectly well from outside. decided easiest way was wind down window and stretch out to open from outside lever/button. this worked well for the first day then "crack/bang/thud" the window winder does not work any more.

i have taken off both door facings to compare the two, of course i can't see too much as metal panel in the way with holes cut out. when sticking my hand inside i can feel the cog 1/4 thing being wound up and down but the window will not go up. if i pull the window up and put the handle winder in the right pos'n it will wind it down OK but not back up.

i have ordered a CD manual to hopefully help explain, however i'm too impatient to wait for it to arrive - seems to be taking an age...(from ebay). someone said it works on a worm/wheel combination, is it feasible that somehow this will only work in one direction, or could it be a pivoting joint gone? anyone had any similar problems or suggestions where to look, or even how to remove the whole thing so i can inspect how it works and try to figure it out from there.

Also, while i'm on......any suggestions to the door sticking problem, have moved the internal door lever to three different positions afforded by the fixing slots at the handle end to no avail.

any advice gratefully received "pride coming before a fall springs to mind!"

Thanks in anticipation,

Helen
