Right, the Estate body shell is stripped of underseal, wire brushed and waiting for the small amount of welding to be done. The car came with Kango static
three point seat belts, which I intend to replace with inertia reels. The existing mountings are 1. The threaded plate below the rear side window for the
top mount. 2. A plate behind the hand brake lever with two threaded holes, one for each short section of belt. 3. A plain hole in the floor pan at the base
of the 'B' post, with a reinforcing plate and a loose nut.
Will the existing Imperial bolts and threaded plates be OK for the new belts, assuming that the new belts come with metric fittings.Or do they need
replacing with metric threaded plates.
I know I need the belts for a pillarless car, I just want to get any new plates welded on before the paint goes on.

Martin, I bought a set of these a while back for a Herald and there was no trouble fitting them - the bolts are threaded for any existing captive nuts
and are a direct replacement. Give the bolts a helping hand by cleaning and maybe tapping the existing threads and they'll screw straight in.

The belts have arrived, but the existing mounts are tapped 5/16th UNF, the new bolts that come with the belts are 10mm fine.A difference of
about 2mm. I have discovered that bell housing pivot bushes are JUST the right size to allow the 5/16th bolts to fit the mounting holes in the
new belts and to take up the slack in the hole
. Do we think this is acceptable, or should I drill and re-tap the existing plates that are welded to the body to take the new 10mm bolts?
Also, both belts have the adjustable inertia mechanism on the same side, meaning they are both the same and not a handed pair. I know they will
work, but they will look odd as one side will have the inertia bit at the top, the other side will have it at the bottom. Methinks a call to
the club shop is needed.

They're not cheap from the club and at that price I would expect them to be provided in pairs and with the correct fixing bolts (assuming
your fixing points are original?). If they can't provide the proper item then I'd ask for refund.

Righto, I visited the Securon website, it seems they only do the one type of belt, i.e you get two belts the same, not a handed pair.
Also the supplied bolts are 7/16th Fine, so my mistake on the measurements, but still not the same as the 5/16th on the car. So the
problem is not with the club, but with Securon.
I trhink I will re-tap the threads to the larger size, but still not happy with the odd look of the inertia bits not matching. Ho Hum!

Martin,
I don't follow, How are they 'handed'?

I don't think it's acceptable for them not to be handed and would want a refund

Ian, by 'not handed' I mean they are assymetrical. See the photo. They have an adjuster on one end to alter the inertia
mechanism so they can be mounted at any angle. On the herald, the reel is the top mount, below the side window. This means
one adjuster is on top, on the other side, the adjuster is at the bottom.. I think they will look 'odd' and will annoy me
because I will keep noticing this. I may well return them for a pair of statics, pity really, because the car will be a
daily driver, not original spec, and the inertia reel type would be a lot more practical.

Oh, I see now!
I thought you meant that on one side the inertia unit was at shoulder hight and the other on the floor. Must pay
attention!
Yes, that would annoy me too.
If they're designed to be mounted at any angle, can't they be mounted at floor level? They'd trip up your passengers
though!

Picture paints a thousand words! I had thought of a floor mounting, I dont think i will have rear passengers very
often, but I am very wary of 'cobbling' up a mounting with such an important item. IF any members can suggest a
secure floor mounting I will greatfully listen.
