I don't think that the accuracy or otherwise of the speedo reading should be the reason for selecting a tyre size!
I have used both 155/80 x 13 and 145/80 x13 on 3.5" wheels. You do get better grip with the wider tyres, but the tyre wall flex
may well be an issue. I cannot say I could feel the difference, but I did get greater wear in the centre of the tread,
suggesting the tyre was not completely happy on the narrower rim. I suggest you want a tyre with a flexible sidewall (Michelin
have traditionally been claimed to be like this but I think personal experience or recommendation would help).
It is quite possible that I was using inappropriate tyre pressures (too high?) which had a greater effect on the tyre wear. (It
was not exactly a problem, just an observation, and my driving style in those days was rather boy racer-ish!!) It is worth
noting that Triumph fitted the wider 5.60 x 13 crossply to the same 3.5" rims on the Vitesse 1600 so 155/80 x 13 should not be
ruled out.
I noticed that the slightly larger 155 section tyre did seem to make the speedo almost spot on for accuracy, compensating the
usual tendency to overread slightly (to protect owner's licences?!!)
That said, if you can get them and want the ideal set up, I would go for 155/80 tyres on 4.5" wheels. Slightly more grip, no
problem with speedo, and tyre properly supported by the wheel rim for optimum grip and wear.

..in the same area, I need an advise. I am driving a Herald 13/60 Estate. I have just had my tyres replaced bu new ones.
After one weeks driving I realize that they are the wrong size, namely 155/70/13. I specifically asked the garage to use
the same size as the old ones, which are of the correct size 155/80/13.
Are there any serious safety issues to be aware of, when driving the tires with the lower section height.
