Hi Paul,
Sorry to hear that the diaphragm didn't sort out your problem. It's a difficult fault to sort out at a distance, but there area few things which come
to mind as follows:
1 - Have you checked for muck in the carb float chamber? This can have come through from the fuel, but I've also encountered slivers of rubber hose
shaved off the inside when the pipe is pushed onto the carb inlet. This can obstruct the float valve and hold it either open or restrict flow.
2 - Is the air filter clean? Try testing without the filter on.
3 - Is there any smell of excess petrol? This might be an indicator of problem 1. It might also indicate the problem lies with the iginition. While
this sounds odd, the faster running with choke can mask an ignition fault, as soon as the idle is slowed and mixture weakened the fault becomes
apparent.
Feel free to give me a call if you find anything you want to clarify, though today and tomorrow will be difficult as we're trading at the NEC
Autojumble. Any other time I should be reachable,
Cheers,
Bill.
