HI All
Ive got some electrical problems which i need some help with on my 1360 vert. I recently fitted a new regulator box and at the same time fitted a horn
switch on the dashboard. Now all seemed to work OK and i left the car for a while. When i returned my indicators dont work neither will the car start. It
does turn over put doesnt fire up. Are any of these connected. The indicator light on the speedo doesnt work neither.
Your wealth of experience will be appreciated.

Could be any one of a multitude of things but start by re-charging the battery and cleaning the battery terminals of any corrosion. If that doesn't fix
it check all the leads connecting the ignition circuits. Also check that you have a good earth connection from the battery to the body and the engine,
faulty earth connections can cause really strange and unexpected problems.
If that doesn't work then I'm sure this forum will help you drill down a bit further.

Hi Jason,
What events led to changing the regulator box, and did you carry out all the adjustments when it was installed? Maybe a red herring, but worth
establishing that everything in this area is done correctly before chasing around the rest of the electrical system.
Also, how have you arranged the horn switching in the dashboard (what wires go where?),
Cheers,
Bill.

Thank you for both your replies. Bill, The previous regulator box was badly corroded inside. It worked fine but decided to replace it with a new
one. I may be saying something stupid here so bear with me but what adjustments?. Shouldnt the regulator be set up before being sold?. The engine
does turn over but doesnt fire up.I had started the car up with this regulator fitted with no problems before i did the wiring for the horn and
havnt touch the regulator after fitting. There is no warning light to say there is a problem with the charging system or the unit itself. Right the
horn , There is a toggle switch mounted on the dashboard. The two horn wires on the horn ,one goes to the regulator ,brown wire, to A terminal the
other goes to toggle switch connector and the other switch connector is earthed to the outside of the middle steering column bracket. I believe
this wire to be correct but please prove me wrong. It works fine but obviously I dont want it to effect other electrical components.
Thanks Jason

Hi Jason,
Dig out a Herald workshop manual (even the Haynes is adequate) and follow the instructions for setting up the regualtor - it's quite a detailed
process, too many words to explain here without diagrams. It has to be adjusted on the car as it's behaviour is dependant upon that of the
dynamo. Most regulators which get replaced have nothing wrong with them other than needing adjustment, few garages understand them so they get
binned as soon as there's any charging problem.
In your original post you mentioned the car not starting. If it won't turn over then I'm sure this is a charging fault, almost certainly down
to the new conrtrol box. If the engine turns but won't fire then you're going to have to go from first principles, ie, have you got a spark
etc.
Cheers,
Bill.

Hi Bill
No chance to look at the car today but i will run through the ignition on Monday as i will be at Sandown tomorrow. It cant be anything too
difficult as the car started and ran OK not a hour before.
My possible theory is maybe ive got stale petrol in my tank as the car hasnt been driven for a while so i will get some more just as a
precaution as the fuel gauge is saying im quite low. I may have picked up some dirt into the carb. The list goes on but i will check first
that i have a spark, gives me an excuse to use the ignition bits i bought from you at Beaulieu. Maybe I will speak to you at Sandown?

Hi Bill
Nice to see you in person at Sandown. Looked like you were doing a roaring trade. Managed to get to the bottom of my problems with the
car. Started
at plugs and worked my back only to find that when i
bypassed the ignition wire from switch to flasher everything fired into live, found that the wire had broken down inside.
Thanks for your advise on this matter and to anyone else who answered my plea for help.
Regards
Jason
