Not sure which section to put this in but can someone help. I am nearing the end of an 18month project which has seen a Herald evolve from a reasonable
scrapper to a respectable drivable car. During the process I have changed the colour and the engine and also damaged the commision plate. I have got a
blank which i need to stamp. Do I stamp it as the original , or stamp it with new colour and engine No. DVLA won't alter the log book detail until it is
Taxed.

Its a Catch-22.
To get Tax you need MOT but to get an MOT you need a Comission plate which matches the V5, but to get the comission plate to match the V5 you need the
DVLA to change it, but first you need Tax!
Hmmm...
Are you sure you need Tax?
I just fill in the change of details on the V5 and post it off, two weeks later it come back changed, don't see where Tax comes into it?
I have also seen Comission plates with engine no's simply written on in felt tip!

KEEP IT ORIGINAL! While you know it isn't, others may see ANY change to the plate with the commission number on it as fraud. The last thing you want is
to start having vehicle inspectors or the police asking questions about the car's identity and then have to try and prove or justify what you have
done. Possible consequences are that you could be accused of some form of "ringing" and maybe even have to have a Q plate and forfeit tax-exemption
status!
The log book of course should be up to date with the CURRENT engine number, and the current colour (but as they only quote basic colour, not shades or
names, no point trying to tell the DVLA it has gone from Cactus to Conifer green, or Powder blue to Valencia, for example). But those can be easily
checked and the paperwork easily changed without complications. The engine number does NOT appear on the Commission plate, only the commission number
and paint and trim numbers.
