What colour greens?

My herald is going for a respray - what green options do I have to complement my old(but new to me!) cactus green seats for my 67 herald conv - any ideas as to what options, colour numbers etc - many thanks. PS have to say the message board facility is brill for novices like me to be able to draw on the experience of many ......

As to the original factory options available, you'd have to consult Mr Costigan's originality guide.
The original details on your car should be recorded on the commission plate (left side of bulkhead near the bonnet catch). A Heritage certificate could also tell you what the factory recorded for your car, but you have to pay for that.
I CAN say with confidence that Conifer Green was one of the body colours which "went with" cactus trim. Not sure, but I don't think laurel green had been introduced at that point, but that is a similar dark green.
I think olive green (not really green at all, but not exactly brown either!) was another option for cactus trim (they certainly did an olive and cactus duo-tone paint option on 1200's).
Only other greens used, (but not as late as 1967) would have been Sherwood Green, and I think most of them had red trim.

Cactus trim was fitted to Heralds in Conifer, Cactus, Olive monotone green colours. There were also the lovely 2-tone Conifer/Cactus and Olive/Cactus combinations, technically obsolete by 1967 but why should that stop you? Less well known, Cactus trim was also available with Cherry red bodywork. There will be other combinations - if it looks right, then it probably is....

  I believe you could also special order un-listed combinations, but to my mind, the duo-tone, of lower half in conifer and top half in cactus with cactus green trim is amongst the best, and 100% cactus paint with cactus trim amongst the least appealing...

    There are so many "unofficial" colour/trim combinations on seemingly original cars. As well as the special orders, there are some which appear to have been standard production, yet never made it into the officially listed options.Equally, some officially listed combinations don't appear to have ever existed......

Hi - many thanks for your help and advice but plans have now changed due to me having a blonde moment!!!
Now back to blues.............long story but if you want a laugh will fill you in at a later date.

Now I am after the blues available at the time...........not the pales ones though....any help with colours and paint numbers

  I think I am right in saying that only 2 blues were available on late 1200's, namely Wedgewood (the very bright pale "sky" blue) and Royal blu which is a very dark "navy" blue and which suits the Herald very well. I think Valencia blue was only available on the 13/60s which is also a pleasant and popular colour for Heralds and Vitesses.
  Onlt the early cars had the rarer blues such as Monaco and Renoir (nearly purple).

    I've meant to add my own thoughts, but the last few days hve been a bit hectic. Valencia could be found on late 1200s, it's reasonable to presume that all 13/60 colour made it onto at least a few 1200s, whether it's officially dosumented or not.
    The other colour which can be argued as being a Blue, is Gunmetal. Code is 18, technically any colour ending with 8 is classified as Grey. To my eye it looks Blue, I have had many arguments about this (I really have nothing better to do on occasion!) Having spent my formative years surrounded by firearms, their finish is always referred to as Blue - I rest my case!

      It is the Royal Blue (more like Navy) code 56 that I am after.
      The despute about gunmetal grey continues in our house too! My herald is this colour at present - which I dislike due to too many years in the RAF! However, my husband who is still in the RAF as a weapons specialist, sees it as blue like you.............must be a man thing as all my women friends see it as grey too...........one thing is for sure , this colour is going! Assuming I can get hold of the paint etc to achieve the royal blue( or is this navy!) 56 look.........any ideas?

      As postage for something this weight is not cheap, I used my local franchised 'Spraystore'.
      Once i got to someone who knew what they were doing, they had the triumph codes I was looking for, albeit under 'Rover'
      They didn't do cellulose (don't know if that's the franchise owner's decision, or a local one), so made me up single pack acrylic lacquer. Although I love the colour (BRG code HAA)I'm not having much success with this, but I put that down squarely to me being at the very bottom of a steep learning curve!
      I'd be interested to hear of others experience with this paint type.

      I don't think it'd a female thing, I understand that 13% of men are green/blue colour-blind, and to add further to the confusion, our house here in the USA is painted light grey, although my wife insists it is a blue colour.
      
      My two least favourite colours are grey and brown, and our 'beater' car is an '82 Toyota Celica in Brown, with brown interior! We call it the turd car, and we only keep it because it has almost 280,000 miles on it and it won't die!
      
      But I did once have a Grey Herald 1200-I Saloon with Phantom Red interior which I enjoyed driving.
      
      ps. my Vitesse is Signal Red, which many men apparently see as a dull brown shade!
