Hi folks, the other day whilst investigating under the dash of my recently aquired 13/60 convertible, I saw bubbling paint and rather than ignore it and
put the millboard back. I decided to give it a poke like... so my question is this, Is a bulkhead that you can put your finger through in places an instant
MOT failiure? or is it ok if the rust is confined to the middle portion?
The sweet thing is due for an MOT soon, and I do intend to replace the bulkhead entirely pending further investigation, but might it pass with this falt,
or am I better off laying it up beforehand and saving myself the trouble of taking it in??

Thanks for the offer Ray, sounds good, I may well take you up on it, but I need to establish first exactly how much rust there is, and if it won't
effect the Mot-ability as Colin suggests, then I have some time to figure out just how much patching up it might take, and whether I might be
better off replacing the whole thing or just doing the patches on what I have... But I do appreiciate you offering me the chance, so how much are
you asking? and where are you/ is it ?....
Cheers-Nick.

No reason why it should fail.
What has happened is that the drain for the heater airbox is full of crap, and it has rotted out the seams.
You can drill out the spotwelds and repair the holes, assuming it is not too bad.
In the meantime, cleanout the drain, and put some Duck tape over the holes to stop the water pissing all over your feet.

Thanks for your insight Colin, I feel much enchouraged by what you say. I'll not worry about the mot in that respect then at least, though I'm sure
there'll be other things that become an issue on the day... I've not had the car long enough to know what I've got yet really......I'll let you
know how I get on...

On a (slightly) related topic, a certain local gentleman and TSSC member had his Spitfire passed by the MOT examiner with comment on the 'hairy'
underseal under the floorpan.... little did he know it was actually the driver's footwell carpet showing through a huge rust hole and painted black as
an emergency botch repair...
