Hi Ray,
I assume you mean the holes in the bottom of the kidney shaped pressing either side? These are redundant body mounting points, the Mk1 chassis has
fixings into the tops of the chassis rails at these points. There are repair panels available which reproduce the kidney pressings and include the
mounting holes. While many people are happy to simply plate over this complex panel, I've always liked torepair cars the way they were originally
built, even if it's an area no-one but myself and the MOT man gets to see!
The one advantage of the se holes is that they are at the lowest point in the seat pan, so a handy drain point to let the water out when necessary. If
you replace this are with flat steel there's no point putting in the holes - they will no longer be at the lowest point,
Cheers,
Bill.

I have just had to sort out repairs in this area although the rust was in the flat area next to the inner arches and the kidney shaped bits were
fine. Before I investiaged the extent of the rot fully I had a look to see what repair panels were available and found these
http://www.canleyclassics.com/newproducts.asp?uid=... as it happens the damage was
not that extensive and a couple of patches satisfied the MOT man and were done in such a was that the are retains it's look and shape.
