Single rail Overdrive Gearbox in a 1200 Herald?

Posted By : Phil Kinsella, 04-Nov-2006, 12:02pm

Folks, Your assistance please. I am due to undertake a chassis transfer on my 1200 Herald (page 14 of Courier 317) I have a J type overdrive on a single rail box from a 1500 spitty and the correct rear mounting bracket and wish to fit this to the chassis as part of the rebuild.

I am happy on fitting it to the engine and chassis etc, but what I don't know is what type of Prop shaft do I need? I have the Spitfire one (too short) and the original 1200 Herald prop which I think is to long. Having read other articles on this, it seems that I need a Vitesse non o/d prop at 46.5 - 47 inches long? Is this correct?

I also read that the 'flanges' on the prop need changing - What does this mean and what is involved?

Is there anyone out there with the correct prop going spare?

Have any of you done this very conversion?

The prop is the main concern, but any advice, warnings or spare prop for sale, please contact me.

Thanks. Phil.
