hi
My Herald 13/60 is leaking from the gearbox. I suspect the speedo outlet to be the sinner.I must add that when the picture was taken, I had a leaking
clutch slave cylinder, leaking to the bellhouse. Not that it has to be significant; but to me the leak does not resemble gear oil, but in fact clutch
fluid.
Do you guys have any comments.

I can't quite figure out the photograph but my Herald has the speedo drive and clutch slave cylinder on oposite sides therefore the two couldn't be
confused, are yours on the same sde?

Hi
sorry for the rather close upped photo - clutch slave cylinder and speedo drive are on opposite site. And right you are - it seems hard to believe
that the two incidents are connected. I just thought I'd mentioned it.

Flemming,
Just a wee tip to suggest you double-check that the leak is actually from where you first thought. I say this as I thought my gearbox was once leaking
and had nightmares about taking it out and having to renew seals and replace an oil-contaminated clutch. However, on closer inspection found that the
oil leak stemmed from one corner of the engine sump, with the oil gradually making itself known by dripping off the bottom of the bell-housing.
Best of luck,
Graham.

Mine has always collected oil around here, but it seems to be engine oil seeping back. Thing to do is top up the gearbox oil and keep an eye on the
level for a few weeks to see if it really IS leaking before you start taking things apart.

Degrease the gearbox with spray-on degreaser and rinse off with warm water. Then cover the gearbox in talcum powder. When you go for a drive
any oil that leaks out will stay where it is and you will see where it is coming from.
There are 2 seals in the speedo take-off, an o-ring in a groove on the outside of the take-off housing and a shaft seal inside it, that seals
against the rotating bit. Either can be the cause of the leak.
Good luck
Van
