I have a J type overdrive gearbox which I will be fitting in my Hearld some time this year but I'm not sure what length of propshaft I need as I don't know
if this box is single or 3 rail, how do I tell the difference?

Steve,
The 3 rail box has the remote gearchange coming out the top of the box, going backwards. It is a flat looking alloy section, with 3 visible pins (or
rails i guess) at its base. The single rail box has a tubular shaft coming out the top of the box going backwards, but without any visible rails...
Hope you can work it out from my very poor description, I'l try and find some pictures!
Ben

Ben's description is correct, but if you have a J-type overdrive it's more likely to be a single rail box (although there are a few 3-rails
attached to these thing out there).
An easy peasy test is - where is reverse gear? If it's next to first then you've got a 3-rail, if it's next to 4th then it single.
