hello, me again, i was fitting my electronic ignition, and was looking at various bits to figure out why it gets lumpy after 40miles on exceleration. im
learning as I go on these things, the fan belt, goes around fan, water pump and alternator, it seems rather loose, the pat of the belt that goes between
pump and alternator at the top can be flexed in the middle about 3-4 inches, is that ok or too lose? the alternater is at its furthest across on the
adjustment arm

if 3/4 inch, that is OK.
if 3 to 4 inches, I'm surprised it hasn't fallen off!
Cheers

3 to 4 inches, 2 inches up/down from center line if it had no flex.

I'm surprised you are getting any pump flow or any charge into the battery with that much play! Looks like you need a shorter belt.

Go to a decent factor's, they should be able to help you find something more suitable.
