  your best bet would be to pick up a good secondhand 1500 spitfire engine.
  
  What has gone on yours???
  
  If you fancy a journey I can let you have a believed good mk4 spitfire engine. (it came from a crashed car) at a good price.

    It's unlkely there will be a recon one ready to buy off the shelf, your more liekly to have to order one and wait a few weeks. As Colin says though, what has gone on the engine it may be a simple fix? you may only need a short-block?

      I wouldn't go for a 1500 unless you change the diff too and maybe fit an overdrive gearbox - that would give you a great cruising motor.

        More what i was aiming at was not to go out of your way to find a 13/60 engine, as there are more suitable replacements that you could very well get at a better price.
        
        Yes an OD is desirable, but don't discount a 1500 jut because you don't have 1.

        the engine dident sell on ebay, i asked about buying the su carbs seprate and he said contact him if it dident sell, so if you have twin su carbs, you could buy it and sell me them, let me know i will ask the bloke. listing is

            That wasn't the one I was looking for... it was a reconditioned & never run 13/60 engine....

              In a similar situation myself not long ago I was told that the quality of some "reconditioned" engines for our cars was often questionable, and that it would probably be better and certainly cheaper to do the job myself. Not got it together yet as not had much time at it but it ain't complicated and I reckon that for parts and machining, but not counting tools you don't have that you may be able to scrounge off a mate you will be looking at around half the average price for a recon unit. Worth thinking about!
              Even if you have to get things like valve spring compressors, ring squeezers even lifting tackle (buying all that will probably guarantee you never have to do the job again...) you'll still not exceed the cost of that recon engine.
              
              Fair play mind, I'm not saying that people are overcharging for recon engines as there IS a fair bit of work involved to do a tidy job. But do it yourself and you know its right.
