Manifold drain tube

Well I managed to get all the knackered studs out with no problem, but that little drain tube from the inlet is giving me grief! When I got my hands on it some clown had already busted off the tube & rounded the (brass) union. Molegrips failed, an extractor split the union so I cut off the remains with a cold chisel and drilled it for a larger extractor but these won't grip in the brass, just tear it away.

So I think there are two options. I could drill it right out and retap, but I need to know the thread size/ type to get the right drill,
OR I have seen 2 manifolds now where there is no hole through into the inlet, it doesn't seem to make any odds so could I just bung it up with something? Probably drill and tap oversize (maybe 1/4 UNF) and just screw a bolt in it.

OR I could just use the good manifold off the old engine I suppose. Any thoughts anyone?
