Hi, Can anyone tell me what is the best way to remove the cylinder head after all studs etc have been removed. The cylinder head is stuck on the engine
block and will not budge. Any ideas please. Steve

Hi Steve,
First of all double check you've got all the studs and nuts off,i always use gentle persuasion with a hide or rubber hammer, never fails.

Hi Stephen,
try keeping the inlet/exhaust manifolds connected to the head , once all the cylinder head bolts are removed you can use the exhaust manifold as a
very good 'handle' to pull/push the head - tends to work better than trying to gain a good grip on the 'naked' head.
cheers

Have you removed the water pump housing? I can't remember for sure but I think it bolts to the cylinder head and the block and if I'm right
would prevent the two being separated.

Water pump housing only bolts to the head, not the engine block.
Try putting the sparkplugs back in and trying to "start" the engine - should pop the head off.
Failing that, a FBH and block of wood to spread the blows. (BH = Big Hammer, you can guess what F is)

Aaah the old Fire brigade key.
A set of keys numbered FB1, FB2, FB3 etc, for security doors, lift motor rooms etc,and if none of those fitted, use the FB H!

I'm definitely a fan of the big rubber hammer - just keep hitting each side in turn from slightly below so that the force
pushes the head upwards. Turning the engine over with the nuts off also works very well (the engine nuts that is).
