I am back in the Triumph fold after a while in the classic motorcycle wilderness and am finally getting my Herald back on the road.
I have fitted my 1200 Estate with the engine and Gearbox from a very late 1980 1300 Dolomite, along with the matching Carb, Fuel pump etc. I know the carb
is a waxstat type, but I do not mind that. My problem is what airfilter housing to use, as I do not want to use a K+N type for the reason of appearance.
The Dolomite filter housing is a large plastic bowl and spout mounted on an alloy elbow, which does not clear the engine bay panel on the Herald.
Will the filter housing from a stromberg equipped 13/60 fit? The Dolomite carb is 1 1/2 inch SU and the filter mounting bolts are 66mm apart. If not the
13/60, what others can I try?
The 13/60 Herald is quoted at 61 BHP, the 1300 Dolomite at 58 BHP, is this because of the Dolomite exhaust, or due to emission restrictions on the
engine?
The reason for the Dolomite engine? The best of them all, it was very low mileage and FREE!

I would go for twin SU's myself, and use a Spitfire air filter, this will have no problems fitting under the bonnet and will also increase your
58bhp.
Or if you want to, you could go for trumpets instead of filters, they look very nice and sound even better.
