water loss, and a lot of smoke

Hi there

Two 13/60 subjects:-

Water cooling. When I fill my radiator up (changed the thermostat at the weekend) - run the engine(heater on) , pressure increases, water pours out of the overflow pipe, until the thermostat opens. Then I top the radiator up. Is this normal? Found the radiator below level again the next morning. Where has all the water gone?

Exhaust smoke. Seems to be a lot of blue smoke when running stationary, and less when running on the road. Also black deposits coming out of the exhaust.
Any relation to the water problem do you think?

I was going to change the head gasket next (seems to be a little bit of mayonaise on the oil filler cap). Any other suggestions? Engine done about 57,000 miles.

Dave
