I am about to take my 1200 herald engine apart in order to rebuild it - ie. replace bearings, piston rings and generally clean it up, hopefully without
needing to go for rebore etc. (This is at least partly for the experience of rebuilding the whole car.)
I have read, I think in Callum's tutorial, that when the main bearing and big end bolts are tightened to correct torque that they stretch and therefore
shouldn't be used again.
Along with all the other bits that I would be planning to replace, should I be aiming to replace these bolts as well or is this advice for those building
high performance engines. (The engine is an unmodified 1200 with a single carb and it is intended for gentle road use only.)
Many thanks for any help which can be offered and for the invaluable advice which I have previously received.
Steve.

Steve,
I would follow Calum - after all, these are more stressed than almost any other fastener on your car, even for road use, and they are not expensive -
£3 each from Burton Power?
Good luck with the rebuild - You'll enjoy it! Hearing your rebuilt engine start again is like hearing your baby cry for the first time!

Thanks John,
I'll include those on the shopping list then.
