I am deep into a body off restoration of a 1966 1200 herald. This is my first such foray and I have so far requested help on chassis questions. Having
taken the engine out, and since it was running a slightly low oil pressure when run briefly before dismantling began, I would like to strip down the engine
and rebuild it, at least partly for the sheer hell of it! I wonder if anyone could give me a steer as to the general list of parts which I should aim to
replace as a matter of course in doing this, and do any of the major suppliers supply a standard 'overhaul/rebuild' kit? Many thanks, Steve.

Good for you, Stephen! That's the way to learn!
Any of the usual suppliers will sell 'top' and 'bottom' sets of gaskets for your engine. You will need these whatever you do, and fit new plugs, leads,
points etc., thermostat, water tubing etc., . Main and big end bearings, thrust washers, piston rings; wait until you know if you need oversized items.
If you are feeling flush, a new timing chain.
You won't know until you get in there what else needs doing - rebore and oversized pistons for instance. May I suggest that you go to the Totally
Triumph Net/Spitfire Hanger/Performance Forum and look for Calum's Tutorial on "Building A Reliable Spitfire Engine For High Performance". It is at the
top of the page, not one of the threads. There is no better primer (and advanced instruction) advice on Triumph engine building, and of course Spitfire
engine=Herald engine. But have a Haynes or other manual to hand for the nitty bits.
And enjoy! If you have been there, hearing an engine start that you have built yourself is second only to hearing your baby's first cry!
Good luck!
John
