First off, I disagree with ONLY using mineral oil in our cars.
Fully synthetic, if it is true fully synthetic is fine, as long as it is the correct viscosity of 20W/50.
There is a lot of nonsense and mis-information on the subject of engine oil, quite possibly more than on any other subject, critical to the
longevity of motor cars.
I have run fully synthetic Valvoline Synpower 20W50 with complete success for 5 years now, although I am about to change to a different brand
because of the significant reduction in anti-wear additives (ZDDP) here in the USA to below 1000ppm, (in API SM rated oil - check the label on
your chosen oil, as it may be differently formulated in Europe).
Also, John Kipping/Canley Classics has recommended the use of Mobil 1 (fully synthitic) for many years now.
I recommend that everyone reads the following website, which is the best I have yet found on this tricky subject:
www.lnengineering.com/oil.html
p.s. do not believe what the oil companies may tell you, they will only say that their own oil is suitable for our cars and is the best!

Léon

For what it's worth, I run mine on Miller's 20/50 Classic Semi Synthetic 'cos they claim it's specially formulated for classic cars
(and reasonably priced). As for performance, I found that compared to ordinary 20/50, the oil pressure at tickover (1000rpm) when hot
is a stable 35psi instead of 25psi with the previous oil.
At the risk of stealing the thread, any recommendations on gearbox oil? I pick up my rebuilt box tomorrow.
