Can anyone tell me where I can purchase the pipe from that goes between the output of the fuel pump to the carburetors? I also need the union nut &
olive ring.
Also, the accepted opinion seems to be that a
6-2-1 exhaust manifold does not enhance performance but a 6-3-1 does. Is this correct? and if so why are the former sold/bought?
Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter,
I would hazard a guess that www.canleyclassics.com could source the fuel pump bits new or one of the many breakers could supply second hand - depends
where you live. Suggestions would include:
North - Spitfire graveyard - Sheffield
Midlands - Mike Papworth - Coventry
South - Spit Bits - Nr Reading
6-3-1 exhausts work better as they work on the scavenge principle of one cylinder helping another, but they need to be paired (hence 6-3). 6-2-1
probably improve performance due to better flow but not to the same extent. They are made as they are easier to fit in the engine bay and cheaper to
make hence sell.

Hi Nathan,
I have got a 6-2-1 on my car fitted by the PO which fouls the edge of the sump lip and I am thinking that if there is not much advantage with this
manifold I might as well fit an original casting.
I will give Canley a call about the petrol pipe & union as all my attempts to make the connection petrol tight have failed despite recent
replacement.
Thanks for the info.

In all honesty my exhaust fouls the sump slightly and its a standard manifold! I would mark up the offending area and 'dress it back a couple
of mil off the car. It doesn't need much clearance as the engine and exhaust move together. One of the other advantages to tubular that I
didn't mention yesterday is weight, the cast item is bloody heavy at least 5kg, I imagine a tubular one is about 1-2 kg? A handy weight saving
at the front of a GT6.
On the petrol pipe, have you checked the sealing surface on the fuel pump? If this is damaged you may never get a leak free joint.

I was wondering if it is practical to attempt to dress the pipe while the manifold is still on the car?It would be quicker(?!) than taking
it off. Taking it off is a job for the better weather.
I have not been able to assess the fuel pump mating surface as I have not had the pump off the car to have a good look but this may well be
the answer as to the cause of the leak.
I am toying with the idea of replacing it with a Facet solid state electronic pump that I quite like the look of.
I don't know if anyone has done this but it's optimum position apparently would be near the tank.
I would prefer this option rather than buying a new mechanical pump.

You really need to take the pipe off to avoid damage to the sump. The fuel pump comes off very quickly though and with good access,
just get a new gasket first
I now get all my gaskets from a local motor factors who supply original Payen gaskets not repro items from the specialists, that never
seem to do do quite as good a job, the're cheaper too! Trick is finding the motor factor with the right supplier, mine can get most
stuff same day, which is better than post times.
