Knocking in reverse!

Hi
Wasn't sure where to post this one! My MkIII's had overdrive problems, overheating problems, transmision cover problems (looks like mine's been fitted with
a bodged herald cover!!) and now has developed a knocking sound that seems to be coming from the rear of the car when I reverse! Didn't realise just how
much fun owning a GT6 could be!!
The problems arose after a long trip down the M4 and as my o/d is playing up again, in that it kicks in whether I switch it in or not, I'm a little
concerned that it could be switched in when I reverse. If this is the the case what would the symptoms be & where would I hear the noise? If it's not
the o/d what could other causes be?
Thanks in advance for your help
David

mine makes a fantastic whining noise and hardly engages, a lot of clutch slippage. Does o/d work in second gear as well? If so, it's possible it will
work in reverse also.

O/d doesn't engage in 2nd & knocking only occurs when in gear, it stops when I depress the clutch. Don, I've checked out the archived messages
and there doesn't appear to be any relevent info.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I would try the canley classics o/d page - it's under technical assistance or somesuch page, and gives some useful tips. Sorry can't help any
more than that.
Have you checked out the rear UJs, for source of knocking? Also make sure the spline at the rear of the propshaft isn't seized. I believe (not
certain) that a dodgy prop UJ could give o/d problems, although they are normally electrical. (problems with o/d, i mean!)
Good luck David
