In-line Fuel filters

Hi

I have a GT6 with a fuel filter after the fuel pump. It does not seem to effect the running of the car but all things I read say that the filter should be before the pump. Can anyone offer me any advice on this.

The things you read are right... it should be before the pump in order to protect the pump from the crap that could be in your fuel. I would reccomend one before the carbs too... to protect them from the crap in your fuel pipes.

*It does build up after time y'know.

Putting it before the pump has the advantage of offering a degree of protection to the pump, as it stops any gunk coming down the line blocking the valves in the pump.

On the other hand putting it after the pump still protects the float chamber needle valves (probably the most susceptible to gunk) and makes replacing it much easier, as the pump valves stop fuel flowing in that part of the pipe (the syphon effect tries to empty the petrol tank on the other side of the pump).

    Both types of GT6 pump, indeed all non-Pi Triumph fuel pumps, are diaphragm type pumps that are relatively immune to crap, AND have their own integral gauze filters.
    On the early type, you can even see the top of the gauze thorugh the galss dome and deal with the crap when it accumulates.
    The only advantage of an accessory filter is that you can fit, forget, remember and then replace, throwing the old one away.
    Though removing, cleaning and replacing the early type gauze is as easy as the disposable filter. Doesn't even need a spanner.
