Is it usual to remove the original engine fan after fitting a thermostic Kenlowe?

This is something I've never done, believing the Kenlowe to be an additional rather than replacement fan; however I know of local members who removed
the engine fan with no detriment at all. You should be able to free up a few horsepower from the engine with no fan to twirl around...

Thank you Colin. I am new to all of this. I bought a Mk 2 in the summer with a Kenlowe and the original fan is missing. I could not understand the
logic of removing the original fan and might just replace it.
By the way I live in Mid Ulster so we are not so far apart. Kind regards.
