Oil Coolers

I've been browsing the Mocal website for oil coolers.

I notice they differentiate between spin on conversions for lhd and rhd GT6s.

What is the issue here? - I thought the spin on convertor was the same for everyone ie left hand side of block looking towards bonnet, turns filter through 90 degrees so it runs from bulkhead to bonnet.

The reason I ask is that my GT6 was lhd, since converted to rhd.

This is a guess, but think steering column. I suspect that there is very little clearance between the column of an LHD car and the oil filter, that might require a lower profile of spin-on adaptor.

You might ask on the US based Totally Triumph Net, where they will have more experience of LHDs.

  I was speaking to a US owner/driver at Stafford and he was saying he couldn't fit one because the steering column wouldn't clear. I think he said that they fit a remote filter to get around the problem.

    Does anyone know if remote coolers are better than the standard spin on conversion, which for my MK3 is still far from ideal?

      If you look at the Lindsay Porter Guide to Restoration you'll see a remote oil filter setup right at the back of the book in the 'wierd and wonderful' section; I've tried to obtain details of this car but the owner himself doesn't know how it was done. I'd be in favour of some sort of remote fitting due to the tight access at the side of the block for changing a spin-on oil filter, especially when there's so much room elsewhere.
