I've been looking to purchase a GT6 as a first classic car. Yesterday I went to look at a Mk3 for sale on ebay. The car seemed to be in reasonably good condition, with a reconditioned engine and gearbox and a new clutch. The only concern I had was that it had, at some time, had a front end, nearside, accident, probably several years in the past. The chassis had repair plates welded in, and to my untrained eye seemed to be solid. However, the rear of the bonnet's wheel arch came down about 1" forward of the sill. The gaps around the headlamps were also uneven.

This was the first GT6 I had driven, but it seemed to drive well, not pulling either way etc.

Should I be overly concerned by this old damage, or could it still be worth A2+ type money?

Looks like a lovely car, I'm not an expert on GT6, but my own Spifire was written off in a crash long before it was rebuilt according to my AA Car Data Check documentation, this did not stop me buying it as on inspection it was very well repaired. I too have some welded plates on some of the chassis - largely due to tin worm at at earlier date I believe. As far as the bonnet gaps - don't forget these can vary tremendously on our beloved Triumphs - and can be adjusted to some degree.

Why not give Dave Pearson a ring at Canley and ask them what they know of the car if they've recently installed the engine?

At the end of the day, you are doing the right thing - look and try before you buy off Ebay, it's your money so the risk is all your own, just be prepared to spend more!
