Anything and everything GT6.
Section : Bonnet

I am thinking of replacing/repairing my bonnet on a late 1973 GT6! My local repair shop has said that it would be easier to replace the current one rather
than take it down to the metal and sort out the rust. The current bonnet is the original but has serious rust inside the front section( where the lights
wiring loom sits) ,also the front arches and pivot tube . The out side has alot of "bubble" rust but nowhere has it gone completely through.
Has anyone been done this route? Am I just storing up promblems for a few years time trying to repair the current bonnet? The work will be done by my local
"classic" repair shop and the difference in price between the two options is minimal ? Anyone out there that can give a helping advice or has been here
themselves?
Thanks.

I've just replaced the bonnet on my MkI. I know that both MkII and MkIII bonnets are available remanufactured but with mine it was easier to replace
the entire unit at a cost of £500 second hand. You need to weigh up the practicalities of refitting wings, arches and other panels
(properly!) and of course allowing for labour costs. There are always good second hand bonnets available and it really is false economy to attempt
repairs on a bonnet that isn't really worth saving in the first place.

How are you with a mig?
You can get all the front paqnels, not toooo bad to do, just gotta make sure you keep the correct curve on the wings (or the headlights will not
line up).
(I know, my near side is crap!!)
but I hate spending money when I can do half a job myself (nearly).
Cheers,
