Mark, I had the same problem when doing that part of the resto on mine too.
Apparently you can't get them new anymore (Rimmers/James Paddock etc)
I attacked mine with power drill wire brushes, beat it to death with a rubber hammer to get all the rust dislodged from the inside (drops out of the
bottom) then poured rust converter into the holes and let it get a good soak. Drained it and dried it, primer, paint and re fit (is ok too)
Just a suggestion.
Cheers,
Martin

If you have the cash - and I suggest you find some - then either Totally Triumph or Triumphland (one of the two!) will restore your surround to
better than new condition. These things are RARE, so do the job properly and then you won't have to worry about it falling apart in 5 years
time!
Numbers for above:
Totally Triumph - 01565 777577
Triumphland - 01302 868450
The guy who I spoke to said between 300 and 400 quid depending on how bad it is!

My MkII had a rotten screen frame, but I managed to find a good condition MkI Spit frame for approx £70 last March, took it to
Mark at Jigsaw, who welded up the various unwanted holes, welded on some gutters and then painted it matt black (Late MkII). Cracking job. The
fitment was alot easier than I anticipated. I think that water got into the orig. one at the top of the frame sides as the seal between the
roof and screen frame had perished. I don't know what anybody would do if they owned a MkIII??
