Distributor question

The engine in my GT6 Mark 3 is not the original but is a 2500 from a 2.5L PI Mark 2 saloon. It has a Delco Remy distributor but when I look at a 2.5 Saloon Haynes type book it states that the car had a Lucas distributor!! Anyway, on eBay at the moment is a Delco Remy D200 Distributor in good nick and the GT6 Mark 3 used a Delco Remy D202 Distributor, can anyone tell me if they are interchangeable? My Distributor has the vacuum chamber but does not have the fine calibration facility, was this normal on a D202 or does my car have a completely odd Delco distributor?

On a different note, I watched 'Straw Dogs' on Channel 4 the other night and Susan George and Dustin Hoffman had one hell of a job starting their Triumph Stag!!

I acquired a Mk1 distributor and ran it for a short while. Only difference I could see was that it didn't have the vernier adjustment for the timing. One or two other bits were different as well, nothing much. However, the advance curve could be different on the earlier distributor. Graham, where are you, you know about this stuff.

Why not fit Aldon ignition, it copes with a worn dizzy and difference, especially when cold is startling!

  In fact the person whos workshop I was in has a Mk3 with a 2.5 PI Saloon engine in it, too, so I might actually be able to help here!
  
  His is actually running on Stromberg 150s to confuse the situation. He started with Delco Remy, and then changed to the appropriate Lucas (although with vacumn retard rather than advance) and this has proved to be better.
  
  It's not worth cutting corners on this sort of thing, i don't reckon, as if you do a decent mileage the improvement in economy that you get from running things correctly more than pays for the cost in parts. Basically, i would recommend sticking the appropriate dissy to the engine not the bodywork, especially as the Lucas has the reputation as being the better model.
  
  As an aside I've got a Mk3 with a Mk2 engine and a Lucas distributor ... oh lordy i am a hypocrite!

    I race a GT6 and until recently have stuck with the Delco dissie. It has not proved reliable, cannot be (easily) tuned and finally was binned when I couldn't get rid of a misfire.
    
    I went to Aldon for a replacement (Lucas) and was informed that there are none available at present and that there is a huge waiting list. however, if you can provide a unit for reconditioning they will gladly carry this out and set the advance curve to suit your engine/compression ratio/cam profile etc.
    
    I got a S/H unit from Winns and had it back from Aldon within 3 days.

Mike, I can't help you with advice re the distributor, but I can say that at least all three in Straw Dogs survived all their ordeals !!

  Helen, I had forgotten how nice Susan George was, almost as nice as my GT6 although Susan is probably less temperamental!! Has your car got a nickname?

    'Imminent' springs to mind as I have yet to get it in the garage, having interior done... not yet got my grubby mits on it, feel like i've been waiting forever, but when I get it, I will decide whether it is a he or she... looking like male at the mo, due to the let down's !!
